Description

Keen and knowledgeable people sought to support gardening and horticultural activities at Diggin It Devonport Park and Beckly in Plymstock. This would be working in the garden on general tasks such as planting, maintenance and digging, to improve the garden areas within the site but also in preparing, supporting and assisting with horticultural activities and resources for disabled children and young people participating in activity sessions at Diggin It and Beckly.

Informal setting with emphasis on social interaction alongside providing opportunities for disabled children and young people to develop an interest in and learn skills in horticultural activities.

Diggin It has a large garden area with raised vegetable beds, outdoor forest school area, greenhouse and shortly will have a poly tunnel for year round use.

Seeking people with knowledge and skills to share, an interest in promoting skills development in children and young people, flexible in routine but reliable and consistent.

References will be taken up and an enhance DBS check carried out.

Requirements

The volunteer would need to be physcially fit and able to carry out a broad range of tasks in the garden, which could include digging, weeding, hedge / grass cutting, planting and other horticultural tasks either on their own or with other volunteers.

Volunteers would be asked to support activity sessions for disabled children and young people running at Diggin it and to assist with any tasks undertaken in the garden by the children and young people. The volunteer would ideally have some horticutural / gardening knowledge and be willing and able to share this with children and young people to encourage and foster their personal develop, skills acquision and improve their wellbeing.
