You will help us to maintain the nursery garden growing seasonal salads and edible flowers, and also work on general maintenance and landscaping projects in the zoo grounds.

If you are interested in helping us to make a real difference to people's lives and would like to learn about or offer your existing gardening skills, we would love to hear from you.

Skills and Qualifications

Volunteers need to have an interest in horticultural work and be prepared to work outdoors in all seasons. The focus is on undertaking horticultural tasks as part of a team, so an ability to work with other people is desirable.

Empathy towards the needs of others is an important part of the volunteer role as the focus is on developing confidence and self-esteem in others through horticultural activities.

Volunteers can improve their general fitness and sense of well-being through working outside and as part of a team. Volunteers report that they grow in confidence as a result of working on the project and enjoy the company of other volunteers.
There is a general feeling that they have made a difference, sometimes in terms of horticultural achievenments, but also in making a difference to the lives of others.
