Description

(18+) Devon & Cornwall Food Association (DCFA) Plymouth Hub currently has some exciting vacancies available to those who have some time to spare and the motivation to make a difference to their community.

Tuesdays and Thursdays are food in / out days. If you enjoy good company and want to make a massive impact in your local community, please get in touch. DCFA ensures that all foodstuffs are evenly redistributed to all, and so volunteers who would be willing to spare some time re-bagging commercial bags of all food types would be most welcome to join our team.

Organisation Description

DCFA aims to stop good, in-date food produce from going to landfill. We aim to share it out to those community organisations in Devon & Cornwall that help the disadvantaged either by providing meals or issuing food parcels. Hence our Strapline: Spare Food is Share Food!

DCFA currently has one paid member of staff (our Project Coordinator), however all it's helpers, including its Board of Trustees, are unpaid volunteers. Many also work or volunteer for other charitable organisations in the area, which means each of them understands all too well just how difficult it is to provide food for the disadvantaged among us.

It is so sad to see food producers sending good food to landfill sites simply because it has been packaged or labelled incorrectly or whatever! Especially sad when there are so many hungry people in our communities these days during this current recession. The result of redistributing this food produce to our registered charitable organisations means that they in turn can save money. And the cash saved can be put to their own core-aims. DCFA does not and will not issue food directly to individuals... only to the charitable organisations that have registered with DCFA.
