(18+) Do you know how the City of Plymouth Credit Union (CPCU) is run? Who makes the decisions that shape it's future? As a CPCU volunteer director - it could be you!
You could bring your skills, ideas and approaches within the ethos of Credit Unions, which is a worldwide organisation. CPCU here in Plymouth is expanding and is looking for more trustee/directors to strengthen it's board. We are also looking for more volunteers to join our Supervisory Committee. The Supervisory Committee is the 'watchdog' that exists to ensure that the credit union is being properly run in the interests of its members.
Credit unions are owned and run by their members and the CPCU is no different. Volunteer directors are vital to the successful running of our credit union and you could make a real difference to your local community by joining us.
The City of Plymouth Credit Union is a 'not for profit' member owned financial organisation dedicated to the economic development of the Plymouth Community. We provide financial services to all our members including those who have been excluded from traditional services. We encourage people to save and give low cost loans. We run collection points across the city, go into several schools to encourage junior savers, attend fetes/fun days to promote the organisation, give talks to community groups and other organisations, signpost members to other appropriate organisation e.g. Money Advice, CAB, etc.
We are looking for volunteers who have the flexibility to be able to attend meetings as and when required. Board of Director meetings are usually held on a Wednesday afternoon on a monthly basis, but are currently held on a weekly basis due to our expansion plans for the CPCU. It is not often that board meetings are held on an evening but, sometimes the Supervisory Committee will meet in the office after it has closed to be able to work when there are no customers. The meetings are always held in our Devonport Office in Cumberland Street.
Expertise in fundraising, HR, Health & Safety, etc. are very welcome although we are not solely looking for volunteers with a business background, so please do still apply even if you don't have these specific skills. Any transferable skills would be greatly appreciated i.e. minute taking, etc.
Both Board of Director and Supervisory Committee Volunteers have to be an 'approved person' by the FCA (we will take you through this process after applying) and if successful we'd hope a volunteer could commit to supporting us for at least one year.
