Name: Parent Support Advocate
Organisation: Plymouth Highbury Trust
Location: 207 Outland Road, Plymouth, Devon, PL23PF
Type: Part Time
This is a long term position but need not take up more than 2-3 hours per week

Description

Be part of an award winning team of Volunteer Parent Advocates making a HUGE difference to families in Plymouth!
Our friendly team provides comprehensive caring, empathetic and holistic support to local families where one or both parents have a learning disability.
Parents with a learning disability often feel isolated or have additional problems such as poor housing, living in poverty, child protection concerns, managing children’s behaviour or poor reading and writing skills. Having a volunteer advocate to assist with some of these can make a huge difference to the life of a whole family.
Your role will be person centred and will vary. However, you may be asked to support parents:-
- at meetings
- to read and respond to reports
- with accessing services
- to engage with professionals
- to understand concerns professionals may have regarding their children's care
- to build their confidence and self-esteem
